How to take UPI payments from Instagram comments

For most buyers in India, UPI is simply how you pay: scan or tap, approve in the app, done. If your sales start in Instagram comments, the question is how to get from a comment to a UPI payment — and then to the file — without doing it by hand for every buyer.

Option 1: a payment link, sent by hand

You can create one payment link in a payment app and paste it into every DM. It works, and it costs nothing to set up. The catch is everything after the payment:

• You have to match each payment to the person who made it, usually by checking names or screenshots.
• You send each file yourself, which means someone waits whenever you are busy or asleep.
• Changing the price means changing the link everywhere you have pasted it.

For a handful of sales a week that is fine. When a reel takes off, it isn’t.

Option 2: let every comment create its own order

This is how okan handles it, step by step:

1. The comment. Instagram notifies okan when someone comments your keyword on the post you chose.
2. The order. okan creates an order for that person with its own Razorpay payment link, so every payment is already tied to the buyer who made it.
3. The DM. Your public reply goes under the comment, and the buyer gets a DM card with two buttons: Buy and Payment done.
4. The payment. Buy opens Razorpay’s checkout. The buyer pays with UPI or card, and Razorpay tells okan the order is paid.
5. The delivery. The buyer taps Payment done. okan checks the order really is paid, then sends the download link in the same chat.

Why the Payment done tap? Instagram lets a business send one private reply to a comment. The buyer tapping a button opens the conversation so the file can follow.

Where the money goes

Setting it up

1. Connect your Instagram Business or Creator account with Instagram Login. No Facebook Page is needed.
2. Add your product: a PDF of up to 25 MB and a price.
3. Create an automation: choose the post, the keyword, the public reply, and the product card as the DM.

Checklist

• Your file is a PDF under 25 MB (for other files, put a download link inside a PDF).
• The DM names the product and the price.
• The automation is on before you post.
